## Why this matters

Most strategies don't fail because the thinking was wrong. They fail because the connection
between the boardroom and the workweek was never made. The **Alignment view** shows that
disconnect on one screen — goals, KPIs, and initiatives, with explicit links between them — and
lets you fix it live, in front of the client. It's one of the most compelling things you can
show, not because it's complex, but because it makes the invisible visible.

## Use it in a workshop

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Alignment view">
    Select **Alignment** in the sidebar. The client's entire strategy appears on one screen:
    strategic goals on the left, KPIs in the middle, roadmap initiatives on the right, with
    connection lines between them. (See [Alignment view](/features/alignment) for the mechanics.)

    </Frame>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Trace a well-connected goal">
    Hover a goal that's well connected — you can trace the line from strategic intent through a
    KPI to the initiative delivering it. This is what "aligned" looks like.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Reveal a disconnected goal">
    Now point to a goal with no connections. It's a stated priority that nothing is measuring and
    no initiative is working towards. In most organisations this gap hides in plain sight for
    months — here it takes five seconds to spot. **Once a client sees it, they can't unsee it.**

    <Frame caption="A disconnected goal — a priority with nothing linked to it">
      <img src="https://mintcdn.com/ciclostrategy-5e0b62a7/5EzzHphZe_q9Bxhi/images/consultants/alignment-view/disconnected-goal.png?fit=max&auto=format&n=5EzzHphZe_q9Bxhi&q=85&s=6222dfea52b93335df39a4f0032dbf7d" alt="A strategic goal with no connections to KPIs or initiatives" width="1400" height="1026" data-path="images/consultants/alignment-view/disconnected-goal.png" />
    </Frame>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Fix it live">
    Drag from the disconnected goal to the relevant KPI, and the connection is made — the strategy
    is aligned. You've just identified a strategic gap, proposed a fix, and implemented it, in
    front of the client, in under a minute. That's consulting work delivered live, in the room.

    <Frame caption="The connection made — the goal now links to the KPI that measures it">

    </Frame>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check alignment across teams">
    Use the team switcher to view alignment at different levels. With a leadership team, this
    shows whether different business units are pulling in the same strategic direction.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  Run this live in a strategy workshop. Finding and fixing real gaps together — in real time —
  is far more persuasive than any slide about the importance of alignment.
</Tip>

## The value you're delivering

* **Make the invisible visible** — a disconnect that would cost the client six months and a
  missed target becomes something you can point to and fix together.
* **Live, in-the-room consulting** — diagnose and resolve a structural gap in under a minute.
* **Instant client understanding** — the three-column picture needs no explanation.
